The goal of my off season training is not just to keep from getting out of shape but to get in as great as physical, cardiovascular, and competitive shape as possible. I do this with the intention that when football season is near it is not a tremendous jolt to my system. This way I can really focus on improving my skills, learning our system, and playing the game the way that it was intended. Rather than worrying about surviving from play to play or drill to drill come training camp. I’m not saying I don’t deal with a great deal of pain during camp but, I do feel that each year I come more prepared than the last and there’s a little less shock to my body. Throughout the coarse of the season my goal is to not only try and maintain everything that I went into the season with, but getting in better endurance from week to week and spending what time that I have to get stronger. As we have seen this year injury can be a big part of the game as well. This reality of the game, though a setback, gives other players a great opportunity to show what great athletes they are and also gives them the chance to gain game experience, confidence, and really learn the system. Within this training and nutrition section I would like to break it into 4 areas of emphasis; nutrition, power & strength, endurance & flexibility, and keeping the competitive edge.
